canon L series body shutter speed problems

after shooting for a few hours in NYC today, as it got dark i had to use the slower shutter speeds (1/30th- down) but after trying to use 1/30th its like the camera thinks it is on Bulb.

so when ever i set the shutter speed 1/30th below it will hold the shutter open as if it is on bulb, it wasnt because of the cold i think because the camera has been inside for a few hours and it still has this problem.

it still works 1/60th and above, just slow speeds dont work. where can i get this fixed or has anyone ever experienced this?

It sounds like your slow speed mechanism is gunked old. Could be some crud in the gearing or your lube is dried up (or both). Any competent repairman can handle a job like this. Where are you located?

Send it to canon. Have them CLA the entire body and do the shutter adjustment. It's worth it and should last for many years to come.

im from rochester, NY. i am staying in NJ and going to NYC the next two days. i went to BH and was looking at some lenses and they told me of a place that could probably fix it In NYC. its on 920 broadway or something like that.

is there somewhere where i could get a quick turn around on this? i imagine it will take a week atleast if i send it for a CLA somewhere. any reccomendations for a CLA?

at this point i need a "rush" on it. i am going to california for two weeks in january starting the 4th so i would need it done by then. i imagine i will have to pay alot more for that.

i know the higher speeds work fine. i shoot most of the time with 400 speed film, i dont usually use anything slower then 1/30th.
i was just hoping for a possibility that i could have everything fixed before the trip i am going on.

i have a L3, i have not really compared it to the L1 other then it dosent have a flash sync, 1/30th is the start of the second dial on the front of the camera.

Bring it to Essex in New Jersey. If you drop it off and pickup, they should have it done quickly. You could also try Eddy Smolov, lives in New York. Again- bring it by.

Use the Search function for past threads for contact information.

Faster than that, you will need to take the bottom cover off the camera and squirt some Ronsonol into the mechanism. That might help for a little while.
