Canon L2 top removal

Mine is different...(?)... it has a wind lever (not knob) and what I've heard called a "wing" rewind knob...(not that pop-up crank) not sure about the 'parallax' thing in the shoe,

Ok, got the parallax post. It helps to hold in on the rangefinder coupling (in the lens opening) that makes the parallax post pop it's head up to get at the thing. Also as mentioned, nothing to remove with the Rewind knob.

Gee those optics are going to be a chore to clean! which surface has the gold coating? is it the smaller moving prism or the larger prism?

On my L1, it was only the external surfaces of the RF assembly that needed cleaning. The real culprit for me was the rotary turret (inside and out of each lens). It needs to be removed regardless if cleaning the rear plane of the RF.

I got it! I popped out the large prism (main viewing prism) and it cleaned right up. I removed the rear eyepiece and cleaned each parallax lens and (after removing the larger prism) It makes it possible to clean the other parallax lenses too.
