Canon lens on M3

Hello everone - Considering purchasing Canon 135 F3.5 and 35 F2.8 from KEH for use on an M3. Are these lens thread mount or M mount. Are they coated and will they counple to the M3's RF? All replies will be appreciated.

The Canons are thread mount, and will couple to the RF of an M3 using a quality LTM/M adapter. Both lenses have high quality coatings

Do take note that the M3 does not have a 35mm frameline.

I have that same 35mm lens and and M2 as well as an M4 and it works out just fine. One of my better lenses. The adapter I'm using I bought on ebay, it brings up the correct 35 bright lines. I have a 2nd adapter I bought on ebay that does NOT bring up the correct bright lines, so you might want to consider a beter quality adapter, like the one at Cameraquest. I hear Fedka has some, too, but I never checked.

As for the 135 -- I think you'd be REAL happy with the 100/3.5 Canon. I bought mine on the cheap and the quality just blew me away! If you think it's an option for you, I strongly recommend that lens. One of the sharpest that I own! - Good luck with your purchases.

Oh, yeah. I forgot that. In that case, you'd need a seperate viewfinder. I picked up a turret viewfinder on ebay (again) from the FSU and it cost me $66 shipped. 28, 35, 50, 100, 135 came up. Nice small device, very retro-looking.

Thanks for all the replies. They bring up more questions.

1. The 100mm lens; will it bring up the 135mm frame or the 90mm frame or any frameline at all?

2. Will I need an adaptor for each lens or may I leave tha adaptor on the camera body? I know I will have to remove it to fit an M lens.

3. Could I expect any problems with focusing a non Leica lens?

what framelines come up depends entirely on the adapter, not the lens.

So the 100 will bring up whatever framelines the adapter you purchase will bring up. For this reason, I recommend getting adapters for each lens (or at least each focal length). Then you get the bayonet speed bonus, as well as the correct framelines.

Absolutely right. I have the 90 adapter I use for the 100/3.5 and another 90 adapter I plan to use (but haven't yet) that I will use with my Jupiter 9, an 85/2.0 lens I love.

Since there will be no 35 framelines, you can use whatever adapter you find that's cheapest! Not sure if the M3 viewfinder can give you any indication of what the 35mm angle would look like, since I don't own the M3, but I think the viewfinder magnification is greater than the M2. Which means again, you'd need an external viewfinder or rely on guesswork.

PS - I don't own any Leica lenses. Too costly. The Canon and CV lenses work perfectly, as does my Industar 61 l/d, though it reportedly should have focus issues as the measurements were different than Leicas. (shrug) Works for me.
