Hello,

I bought a used Lide 500f, it's all I can afford right now and the reviews of it aren't appalling, so I thought I'd give it a try, if it's rubbish then sell it on again for the same price I bought it. I love online auctions!

Anyhow, I got the thing home, and while it does have the little plug-in FAU infrared backlighting thing, it's missing the 6-neg film frame to slot the negatives into. I tried using the thing without this, but it won't even calibrate, so it would seem it's kind of essential :)

I'm waiting to hear back from the seller regarding this missing piece. If he doesn't have it, do Canon sell things like this piecewise? I mean, without having to buy an entire scanner?

Cheers.

Well, who would've thought. I rang up Canon and they gave me the phone number of some random fellow in the service office here in Auckland. I spoke to him today, he said, `aaahhh... yup... got one here in my desk.' It's being couriered out. Cost me $NZ20, which isn't too bad for something like this of course.
