Just received my Canon P and 50 1.8 Serenar from ChrisN. Love the look and feel of the camera. Not as quiet as I had expected, but a very well built machine. Here are some pics.

How does the shutter sound compare to your R2A? I had an R2A for a while and thought the shutter was a bit loud. The look of the P is great but I have never seen one in person. Holding one, working the controls and hearing the shutter would be great as I am seriously thinking of getting one.

Chuck, I also had a R2A. I don't think it's as loud, but I also don't think it's much softer either. It's also a different type of sound. The R2A was very metalic to my ear, where as the P has a more dampened sound. I prefer the sound of the P.

Brian, I've also got the VI-T. It never gets any use lately, having given way to the 7s and the P. Either one would make a very nice birthday present to yourself. My next one is coming up in less than 2 months, and I haven't a clue what to give me. May just take the wife for a 4-5 day weekend to Boothbay Harbor, and give the cameras some needed exercise.

Joe, you should have kept at least one of the P's, no home should be without one...

I know what you mean AirTimid. I just got a P, feels really well built and a joy to use.

Nice review ray. Btw - I can tuck my thumb behind the advance lever on both my P's, same as you showed with the m7. I don't know what's up with yours, or if there were differences in design over the lifecycle of the camera.

Thanks. I acquired another P since that review, and I CAN do the thumb thing on that one, so yeah, something is up with that first one.

🙂

My P is not that shiny pretty but it has character. The viewfinder is partially cracked inside, but it does the job well. It is one of all time favorite users cameras. I often sell the pretty "boys" and keep the users to actually use and abuse them. I traded off a mintish VI-L ...
