is the covering on a canon p body vulcanite?

i was just reading (on another forum) about treatments for vulcanite and now i'm curious.

Nope-vulcanite is a rubber compound applied to Leica bodies using heat and pressure-The P is likely covered in some type of vinyl.

so only leica bodies have vulcanite on them?

hmmm..

ok then, what do you guys use, if anything, to bring a little shine to your vinyl covered bodies.

Best polish for P

Best polish for P

Before you try anything on the P, it might be a good idea to try it on something you don't treasure... Some things, like Armorall, can make the surface slippery. The last thing you want is to have a slippery P in your hands, or slipping out of them.
I think the nuetral shoe polish might work OK, a light coat and then a good buffing.
Let us know what works... we all learn this way.

i'm not sure i'll be trying anything actually.
my cameras are alll in very nice shape and i'm thinking that maybe fate should not be tempted.
i do have bee's wax here - it's great for boots. (you should see what spring does to boots around here)

anyone ever try glove oil?

That's a reasonable decision. The issue with vulcanite is that it seems to dry out and then it cracks off more easily. Vinyl and other "leatherette" materials seem to be less subject to problems like that.
