I once slipped while cleaning the film rails of a P. It felt like my fingernail barely grazed the shutter curtain, but it left the previously unwrinkled/undented curtain with a small fingernail poke. It looked the same as every other little dent I've seen on these curtains.
Though I suppose it's likely that some of these dents/wrinkles are caused by curtain start/stop torque as suggested earlier, I've seen that even a light fingernail poke can dent the curtain, and I suspect many of the dents we see were caused by fingernail pokes. You're pulling the leader out of the film can, it slips out from between your fingers, your fingers continue movement towards the curtains, a fingernail kisses the curtain and Bob's your uncle.
I've never seen the wrinkles cause any mechanical problems, so I don't worry about them. I also try to minimize my own clumsy contributions.
