Hello,

On the auction site, there is a Canon with what appears to be an engraved Canon Eagle on the top plate. See #360037208597. The seller does not mention the engraving in the description. Is this one of the special edition made for employees that is mentioned in Peter Dechert's book? This special edition was apparently made in 1962, and the seller lists this camera as being made in 1958. I would appreciate any thoughts on the subject.

Thanks.

I agree. That is probably a fair price for the camera, a 35/2, a 50/1.8, BL 35mm finder, universal finder and 28mm attachment for the finder, even without any engraving. I did not participate in the auction. I wonder if an RFF member won the auction.

Just as well you guys didn't bid:-

"BUYER'S PREMIUM
A premium of 22.5% has to be paid on the knocking down price. The tax (19%) has to be paid on the surcharge, i.e. the total surcharge amounts to 26.78%."

Even with an inflated "buyers premium" and, no doubt, an equally inflated shipping charge, thi was a nice lot of things. The 35/2 and the 28mm attachment are each worth more than $250 by themselves. The outfit would be difficult to put together. The primary rarity, of course, is the camera, if he eagle is genuine. At a calculated guess, a proper auction house should be able to offer this with an estimate of$1500-2000.

I'll wait for a qualified expert, but I'd say, if genuine, the buyer got a very fair deal.

Harry
