I recently purchased a Canon QL-17 Giii in pretty good condition. The problem was when I cocked the film winding lever, it does not set the shutter. I can continually wind but it only occasionally set the shutter. Searching the internet forums only showed how to repair stuck shutter or winding lever not locking. I cleaned the aperture and shutter with lighter fluid and that did not resolved my problem. I removed the front skin and front metal plate, and bottom. After a couple of hours observing the winding and shutter cocking process, I noticed that there is a flat part (slide) at the bottom of the camera. That part slides to the left (looking from camera front) when you wind the lever. While holding the winding lever in the cocked position, I pushed the sliding part to the left and noticed a very slight give. When I release the winding lever, I noticed the shutter is now set. After repeating this process several times, I held the winding lever in the cocked position to show the connecting joint of the sliding lever. I cleaned the joint with lighter fluid, and put a tiny amount of oil (regular machine oil) on a Q-tip and dabbed the joint. Worked the winding lever several times and the shutter is now set. Now it sets every time I cocked the lever. Don't know if this works for all cases, but worked for me. Attached is a picture describing the process.

Thanks for the information and illustration. The Canon QL 17 was at one time a sort of cult camera. I don't know if it still is or not, but in good nick it can take excellent photos.

Hope you will share some you take with yours now that it is working.

EDIT: I might add the same is true for the QL 19.
