hello all!

well i bought a g3 off the hell hole we call ebay, it was sold as is got it for like 35 bucks, well i got it and cocked and tried firing the shutter and well you know the rest...
nothing happened.
well i stuck in a battery to see if the light meter at least worked and to my suprise it did, now im trying different "f" stops and that worked ok, tried different speeds and that worked too even went to "b" mode but i look and well the self timer is stuck in the upright position, so i try and give it a little push but nothing, and i really dont want to force it so i dont break anything... then i decide to try to put it in "b" mode and push it again nothing still, but i notice when i do slide it over into "b" mode the self timer does the little sliding sound..if that makes any sense, but doesnt fire the shutter so im thinking that the shutter is stuck and needs to be oiled...

well contacted greyhoundman but as has been said he is still retired...
well i have decided to take this little project on myself so, today i have been looking on the forum for help and downloaded the manual to see the inside's, and looked at what i will be needing to do this repair myself...

so i saw that DMR has torn hers apart and has done this already, and thats what im going by...

but i have some questions before i start this little operation

1.am i right in thinking the the self timer is still activated because of the stuck shutter?

2.do i have to do anything to release the stuck timer other than oiling the shutter?
i know that if the person before me tried to force it will i have to replace the self timer?

i know this is a long story but seeing as i have never done anything like this i sure could use your help, so if you can help me out i really would apprecite it...

thanx all!
rock on RFF!!!🙂

Hi,
The shutter is probably stuck because it has got oil on it. It is designed to work without lubricant and so needs claening. The self timer is probably also "gummed" - again do not oil or you will make it worse. It should unjam but can be disabled.

If you search the Canon threads, there are various threads on what to do. Copy of the repair manual on my website here http://www.pentax-manuals.com/repairs.htm
