Looks like it would still apply if we replaced all "Canon" with "Nikon"...

Sure, only reason not mentioned is that I don't have personal experience with Nikon. And, we're talking about the R rather than the Z.

I think the main reson is L glass and color science !
They are reliable and a safe investment, their customer service is solid.

Canon bodies are kinda like the Toyota or Honda sedans or, for that matter, the F-150 of vehicle transportation. They work and run and are serviceable - value for money. No one will ooh and ahh at your Canon, you won't have tactile orgasms using one, it won't look vintage or cool. It'll just do its job for you and get out of the way.

I`m finding that to be true all be it a bit late in the day having cycled through most makes including Leica.

Currently have a 5D3 and A7R2 having sold an A7S.
Heading across the pond in a week …. guess what I`ll be taking.
The 5D3.

PS I would imagine Nikon to be the same.

I guess the longer I shoot, the more values like serviceability and reliability matter and values like style points seem to recede.
