I would sell my VI-L right now...

Frank,
Why would you sell such a lovely camera? I always have regretted selling the VI-L that I only briefly owned. I do still own a VI-T, but I am also very used to lever winds, and a bit old to adapt easily.
Anyway, a really nice camera.

Hi Harry, first I need some space in my rack dedicated to Canon Rangefinders.
Second, it's for my wife, similar to Bjoern's. She always complaining about new cameras coming in. I need to sell one of my black Nikon F's in favor to finance either the Canon L1, or a newly acquired Asahiflex IIa (my other weakness is early Pentax SLRs...)
Third, I need to look twice when to grab either my Canon P or this VI-L. I have to admit, I still prefer the P handling. It's at least as nice as the VI-L.

Now the part about the wife I understand. These late model Canon's do handle very well. and, just think, the P was the cheap model.... if you can call any of these expensive cameras cheap. Looking through the price catalogs of the time, and considering the value of the 50's dollar, these cameras did require a fairly affluent buyer.

If the choice were mine, I would keep the VI-L, provided the finder was in good condition (The finder in my VI-L has suffered the loss of portions of the reflected framelines). I prefer the VI-L over the L-1 because I don't particularly like to use the separate slow speed dials on any camera. However, both are good cameras.

Rover is full of bull____. Keep the VI-L and sell ME the L1. As you can see, it's hard to get good, honest advice around here w/ so much GAS in the air.

Canon VI-L with 2/35 Canon, L1 with Komura 2.8/35

Which body would you keep?

Keep the L-1. The deliberation and self-discipline imposed by the lift-and-turn shutter speed dial will make you a more thoughtful, more artistic photographer.

Sell me the VI-L -- I'm a lousy photographer anyway, so it won't hurt me as much...

How wonderful to have the need to choose..... and what a pretty "gift" to be sending to some needy photographer. BTW, I'm always in need (read: lust). With advanced years my needs tend to gravitate to my hobbies :bang: with a bit of a 😀

Strange that I no longer own either of your choices, and I really should (major GAS). Time for the Rolaids/Tums.

Jim, such an advice from a person like you! You left away the irony signs 🙂

All speaks for the VI-L. It looks lesser used, it has single speed dial, slow speeds working (not at the L1), finder with framelines (good visible)... Who says Canon cameras are ugly?

Update and coming full circle

Update and coming full circle

Got the 7s from a fellow RFF member and am very pleased with it. The projected frame lines are great since there is no inclusion of other frame lines, therefore, no clutter. Easy to focus, quiet, just the right size.... perfect for me .Thanks to all who responded to help me make a very wise choice. 😀
