Tom, that was a great deal on that lens! I would have bought it for that, had I seen it. I suspect that eBay purchaser pellix is a camera dealer- I often see him on auctions, but he usually bails out once the item approaches anything over 50% of likely sales price. Not a bad strategy I guess, and this was definately a good buy at $480. I wonder if he was surprised when seller accepted?

Check out Jiri Ecer. He's known as Jiri_e on the auction site. He always has good canon lenses and is the epitome of honesty. He's currently got a number of 50 1.8's and a 50 1.4 for sale. You can take his descriptions to the bank. He is very conservative in his descriptions. I have purchased many items from him and he is trustworthy and a gentleman. Good luck in your search!

PS/ There's also a 105 MM Nikkor which I am not interested in. Repeat, I am not interested in it! I just bought a new camera! :<(

I see some Industar lenses and a Jupiter 8 in the classifieds. Until I find a Canon 50 1.4, I do need a lens. How good are these non-Canon lenses?

The J-8 is only $50, and F2.0 isn't all that slow.

Al, the J3's are known for their problems, the J8 much less so. I have a J8 and like it a lot, but it needed to be lubed. For the price of a J3, toss in another $50, wait around and get a Canon 50/1.4 - I have a 1.8 with cleaning marks and it's going through a Hama-ization along with a recent Canon P acquisition as we speak, so I don't know if it's any good, either my individual one or any of them... Where was I? Oh yeah, don't splurge on the J3.

I missed a J-8 in the classifieds, so I'll keep looking for a J-8 or a Canon 1.4. I check out jiri_e on eBay fairly often, and I'm sure something will come up. Do you also have a Jupiter-9?

Yes, Al. I got the 9 from a personal friend who used to use it on his Leica. He got something better, I got a good deal on the lens.

If you want a J8 have you tried Yuri at Fedka.com? He will do whatever it takes to make sure you get what you pay for. Highly reputable. alex_photo on ebay is pretty consistantly good, but he is in the Ukraine, so returning stuff gets difficult. Yuri is in NY, I think. {pause} OK- I looked. But if you can get a Canon, do so. jiri-e is definitely the Canon man to go to on ebay and even his "bad" lenses are pretty good.

Sorry about that. I do want a Canon lens, but I want an LTM lens for my Canon, so...

(I'll wander over to the FSU thread for more info on those lenses).

Only one slight mark to the metal shutter, and just that dent on the front. It went to DAG today for the shutter speed fix.

Now that was a DEAL 🙂

I had the chance to look over some Canon RF equipment today from a Estate sale and there was a f1.2 in there with everything, with both caps, but it may have had some slight seperation and small cleaning marks - if I can get it for under $250 I might just get it?
