Following the tip on the forum last week, I bought some "For Repair" Fed 2's.

The trim ring was missing on my little Canon IIf when I bought it at a show last year. I have not had luck finding an inexpensive replacement. The seller told me that he has seen them for $20 or so each, but could not get hold of any.

I just put the trim ring from one of the Fed 2's onto the Canon IIf. It fit perfectly, correct size and correct thread. I bought three Fed 2 parts cameras for a total of $30 with shipping. If your Canon needs a ring, PM me. I will "part" out one of them at my cost ($10 ea)+shipping.

The Spare Trim Ring is Taken.

Joe: I will check to see if any of the FSU RF cover screws fit the VI-T and Canon 7.

The cover screw did not fit the VI-T. That is some screw! It is more like a threaded plug.

The head of the Fed 2 screw barely covered the hole, but the threads were way off. The Canon screw is relatively deep. I wonder if a screw with a small o-ring might work. Will be thinking.

Rats, just my luck to not be around. I've got one of mine with the missing trim ring. I wonder what happened to these. There is a relatively large number of the Canon RF's missing the left hand side ring (looking at the camera). No functional problem, just cosmetic.... but annoying.

I'm going to be on the lookout for more Fed 2's in need of repair to part out.

The one that I am keeping intact is the early type, and just needs some shutter curtain pinholes repaired. Pretty good for $10, inclusive of shipping!

The trim ring from the Fed 1's fit the outer thread of the Canon RF window. It "looks" better than "naked", but does not screw on very deep. I have read that the trim ring secures the RF glass into the body. JOE, Care to Comment on that?

PM me with your address. I should still have a spare somewhere.

A tiny drop of Loctite blue threadlocker on the camera body male threads before fitting the trim ring is another good solution. Chose a non-permanent threadlocker in case you have to remove the trim ring in the future.

If you haven't any of these specialised 'engineering adhesives' - a wee drop of nail varnish borrowed from your 'significant other,' should do the job ... 🙂
