Canon Serenar 50mm f3.5

Hey, I don't know, but I'm gonna take a wild guess just like everybody else does. I seem to recall that in the past I have seen serial numbers with special marks that indicare replacements or duplicates or some such. Anyway, as they also always say, somebody that knows more about it will probably give you the answer.

Hi,
Does anyone know the significance of the red dot after the serial number 9623 on this lens.

Hi.

This is a new one for me as I have never seen it on any other Canon RF lens.
If the lens was a replacement then usually Canon would issue another lens with the same serial number but include a "0" or "1"at the end of that serial number.
This theory has not been proven but on my database most lenses with the extra digit (ED) appear in batches which indicate that a batch was lost or misplaced during delivery.
I have quite a few ED lenses in my collection but I have never seen the red dot before.
I have mentioned the various lenses in my book that have been recorded with the ED number. Cheers Peter
