canon vs. nikon shootout

I like the photos that I get with my Canon 85mm/1.9 lens. Maybe I have a good lens and others have bad 85mm Canon lenses? I don't know; here are three photos from a roll of film taken by me yesterday. I used a Bessa T with Fujicolor 100 film.

Any out of focus/softness is due to my focusing.

OK Raid, Since you had to ask, I can provide you with a 8.5cm Nikkor but looks like that has been covered! and my lens is not LTM.
I do have a proposal for you!
Start another thread covering the 10.5cm(100mm) optic and I'll lend you(1 month) my LTM 10.5cm Nikkor for comparison:angel: ....anybody brave enough to make available(for comparisons) their Leitz or Canon?

this has grown much since my initial simple question.
to be clear, i am glad for that, i just don't have many scanned shots with the conon and never had the nikon.

i admit to the bias opinion that i doubt there will be much difference between the 2 lenses.

I am looking forward to Kiu's lens. Should be fun to try out a Nikkor 105 for a while. I will take many photos with it. In fact, if shipping cost is not a problem, maybe also having the 85mm Nikkor would be useful 🙂

I am sorry Raid, I don't have a 8.5cm in LTM, I only have one and thats in Nikon S mount!
The 10.5cm is on the way...anybody willing to lend a Canon 100mm f2.0 for comparison?

This is not a problem at all. I have enough lenses for the test.
It will not be strictly Canon vs. Nikon but the test also includes Leitz lenses.
I have a feeling that with 85mm~100mm lenses not only sharpness is important. The rendering of a face can be wonderful with a lens that may not be the sharpest from center to the edge.

Nikon 105mm
Canon 85mm/1.9
Leitz 90mm/2.0 (first version) 90mm/2.8 (early model) 90mm/4.0 (pre-war)
Steinheil 85mm/2.8

Based on my use of the lenses (except your Nikon), my early guess for overall performance will be:

1. Nikon and Summicron tied
2. Canon and Elmarit tied
3. Elmar and Steinheil tied

you can have my

1) Nikkor 85/2 (chr) (LTM)
2) 1950 85/2 ZK (Zeiss glass, confirmed in the ZICG) (LTM)
3) 65 90/2.8 Elmarit (M)

if you like. 1) and 3) are users, but very sharp. 2) is more of a collector's item but should nicely represent
a well collimated Jupiter 9. I am adding the Elmarit because I have very good experience with it ... maybe yours
is a different sample.

10) Steinheil 85mm/2.8

My lenses are clean of defects and have been extensively used with good results overall.

This test will be so much fun to do.

It seems that this will be a test of older design short telephoto lenses. This is actually better than having a mix of new design lenses and old design lenses since they have different fingerprints. Maybe someone could do a test of the new lenses, such as the CV and late model Summicron and so on.
