Any user experience with this camera?

Picked one up on eBay mainly for the lens but was wondering whether this is a decent camera...

no personal experience but most of the old canons were rock solid...depends on the finder mostly as to usability.

what lens did you pick up with it?

I've been using the Canon P and 7 for some time now and like them a lot but had never tried any of the others.. The ones I have used are indeed rock solid.

I got the chrome 50mm f/1.8 lens with it..

It should be here Thursday or Friday so hopefully I get to try it out this weekend..

Will let you know how it does..

I had one many years ago, and the only salient comment I could make is that it seemed big to me for an RF camera, but in those days, I was lusting after a Pentax Spotmatic F, and when I got it I sold the VT for the same $200 I had paid for it and the 50 2.8 and the 90 1.9. I got a few nice pictures with it, though.

It is a fine camera with the viewfinder being much better than the one on the Canon bottomloaders even the improved series but not as good as on the VIT, P and 7 models and film loading is a breeze. Drawbacks are the weight and size of the camera with that permanent baseplate trigger wind that gets on your nerves after the novelty wears off.

My "local" camera store (60 miles away) has a mint Canon Vt Deluxe with 50/1.8 and 100/3.5 (black and chrome) sitting on his used camera shelf. I tried it out last weekend. What a camera. Absolutely perfect finish, bright, and contrasty viewfinder and silky smooth controls. Even though he's asking $750.00 (too high I believe) for the whole shebang, I'm sorely tempted. Not that I need this camera. I already have an L1 which is basically the same camera sans the trigger advance. But this Vt is just soooo nice.

I have a VT and I really like it. I'm used to the trigger winder (had Rapidwinders on my Leicas when I had them) and the viewfinder is comfortable for me.

Rock solid, great camera.

I've never used a trigger winder so it should be interesting to try it..

I got a VIT years ago mainly for the 35 1.5 that came with it. It is a lovely camera, well made with a good finder. I don't use it much because it is bigger and I don't care for the bottom trigger wind.

In some ways an excellent camera with parallax correction on the auxilliary finders and a very good build quality. I can see why some folks like them. Joe

Colyn , because of your post I decided to drag out my VT and put the 50 1.8 on it and go shoot some pics for you. I went to the flight museum in Addison as I do to test any new cameras I get. So here are some shot from the VT from yesterday. Film was CVS 200 shot at 100 Self dev and scanned.
