A quickie:

Is the lens on both the Canonet 28 and QL17 GIII the same 1:2.8 40mm lens? I was looking for a QL17 GIII on Ebay, and grabbed up a Canonet 28 for next to nothing, hoping it's the same great little lens. Thanks!

Sorry,

The 17 in "QL 17" stands for 1.7 aperture. Although the body is the same, the innards are completely different as well. The QL17 is very well built and fully mechanical. The 28 is electronic and cheaply built. That said, you should still be able to have fun with it, but don't let it influence you against getting a QL17 GIII, as the latter is a vastly superior camera.

The QL17 G-III uses a different lens, a 40mm 1:1.7. It also has parallax compensation for the viewfinder. It contains a 6 elements in 4 groups. While the Canonet 28 lens contains 5 elements in 4 groups.

Proboably missing something but thats the main differences lens wise between the two.
