Canonet problem

HI,

My Canonet QL25 which has worked perfectly for the last 6 months or so stopped working yesterday. It seems that the shutter wont cock when you wind on.

Winding on with the back open, everything seems to work as it should (to my untrained eye), but there is no movement from the shutter blades.

Any ideas please.

Look to see if the blades move slightly when you cock and fire it. Do you have to fire it before advancing the film, or does it just advance without firing the release?

Chances are the shutter blades are stuck, something that a flood cleaning usually takes care of.

If the QL25 is like my Canonet Junior, then there is a sprocket in the center too. This is centered with the lens, and is sort of a guide for the film. On the Junior, if I rotate this in the direction of advancing the film, this eventually stops. When it stops, I can then fire the shutter. So, if I do a test without film, the shutter will never fire, but if I just rotate the center sprocket, with the back open, I can fire the shutter. The center sprocket is "measuring" one frame. Perhaps whatever "stop" this goes to is out of alignment, or broken on yours preventing the shutter from working? It should be visible with the bottom cover off.

There is no centre sprocket as in the junior, just the sprockets on the film take up side.

When i cock the shutter there is some slight movement of the blades, also i noticed a small amount of oil on the edge of a couple of the blades. I also need to press the shutter release before it will wind on again, so it probably sounds like a sticky shutter.

This probably comes from a lack of use over the years. As i said i`ve had it for about 6 months & when i bought it, it came boxed with instructions, a near mint case & the camera itself has`nt a mark on it, looks like it`s had next to no use. Not bad for less than £20.

Look like i need to find myself a repairer before i can use it again.
