I pushed the rewind button on the bottom of my pen F but when I open the back the button is staying pushed in and not resetting so I am unable to cock the shutter or wind the film. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I will look at again when I get home from work but when I was looking at it yesterday I could freely turn it in either direction

I notice you wrote the shutter won’t cock and the wind lever doesn’t seem to do anything …

As you know, pushing in the rewind button allows the sprocket cylinder to rotate freely, thereby allowing you to rewind the film. It is only the wind lever and nothing else which governs or “cancels” the free-motion of the sprocket cylinder. I am afraid something internal has either broken or come loose.

To clarify: For the vast majority of 35mm cameras, once you push the rewind button, rewind, and then open the back, the button will stay pushed in and the sprocket cylinder will move freely in either direction until the wind-lever is wound. Opening the back will reset the frame counter, but does nothing else. It is only the winding operation which causes the shutter to be re-cocked, pops out the rewind button, and re-engages the sprocket cylinder for one-way motion (this is true whether the back is open or closed).

That said, you might try moving the sprocket cylinder gently back and forth while slowly winding - perhaps it may re-engage if it’s not broken completely.

Just my thoughts.
