Canonet QL17 Aperture blade question

Hi all,

Can someone please help me with this small but iritating problam 🙂. On automatic mode my dear canonet's aperture blade cant seem to open to its full 1.7, but it does show 1.7 on the metering. The details is this, it fully opens at first, but when i depressed the shutter halfway it closes to about f2. Is this a common flaw of the camera or should i get something done about it?

Thanks for the respond, however my concern is that the camera is in its A mode,to sum it up: reading in the meter : 1.7, aperture blades didnt open fully instead it close down to (what i assume is closer to 2 than 1.7) when i pressed the shutter halfway. I hope that my explanation is using the correct terms as i am quite new to photography. 🙂

Hi Greyhoundman!
I am using LR44 batteries. Yeah i think ill hope for the best while waiting for the 1st roll to be developed 🙂 Thanks for the insights.

See what happens when the needle reads below f/1.7. If it still stops down to f/2, there may be a problem. However, I would first compare the actual stopped down aperture against the aperture of an accurate hand held meter for the same selected shutter speed. Accuracy on these meters is usually within 1/2 stop even when new out of the box.
