Dear Borge,
can you please tell me what exactly was complicated for you during the Installation ? I would really like to know as we always try to improve SilverFast.
Best regards,

OK, here it comes.
With Plustek you get two CD diskettes with software. One from Plustek and one from Silverfast.
The Plustek software is no problems. It installs quickly. But the Silverfast....
1) You enter the supplied disc and install Silverfast 6.x.
2) During the installation you must enter a very long string of letters and numbers (codeword).
3) When installed, the program prompts you to register. The registration program is funny, if you go back you loose inputted data, if I remember correctly I once again had to enter the codeword.
4) Then you get suggestion to upgrade, free of charge, to the Silverfast 8.x.
5) If you accept, you get an e-mail to your registered e-mail address with a new string of code numbers and letters that have to be entered correctly (puh!).
6) Then the installation programs prompts you that the old code-word for Silverfast 6.x which was supplied with the scanner is not valid any longer (?).
7) When I now tried the Silverfast program during scanning it crashed. I rebooted the computer and it then works better.
8) I noticed the installation program have changed my software for my CanoScan 9000F. I have not tried to run it yet, but is surprised that they changed this also.
9) Scanning slides I notice small thin lines with three colors at some dpi-settings. Finally after contacting Plustek, they suggest me to "Please try to do "Software RESET" in SilverFast 8 and then do scan again. The "Software RESET" you can find:
-Start SilveFast 8
-click "Service Dialog"
-Click "Software reset"
10) I noticed myself that the lines disappeared at 2500 dpi, if they where visible at 2400 dpi. So I changed the settings and continued. I guess I have to manipulate the program like this to get good results. The scratch removal and dust correction software routines is very slow on my computer, I tried it once but will not use it again.
As a conclusion I would like to add that I have a research degree in electrical and computer engineering and are not unfamiliar with software installations. If I have problems, I guess many other users also will have. That was the back-ground to my remark earlier.
Suggestions: 1) Better written installation manuals with a short quick installation guide and a first scan example on paper and pdf-file with the software. 2) The codeword hysteria could be simplified - perhaps with registration and license on the net. 3) Why voiding the Silverfast 6.x license which I have paid for? 4) Why changing the CanoScan software also? 5) Better user manuals.
But remember, the result with the Plustek scanner is much better than CanoScan with my 35 mm negatives. I recommend it for buyers, but it could be more user friendly...
