Can't believe I just bought another Nikon F

Coo, Vick.

I'm on F3 for now.
But if a black Nikon F came along with the right price tag, I'll take it.

Refresh my mind, can an AI lens be used at all on an F?

You can never have too many F's. I have two and use them all the time. At the moment I put together an inexpensive system. My original black 1974 F with the least expensive Nikkors, 28mm f3.5, 50mm f2 and the 135mm f3.5. I have a total of $66 in those lenses. It is actually fun to use them.

Funny I think about selling my black FTN Apollo a lot. The big reasons are I want a standard prism but that is just an impossibility. Also I (before the recent $400-600 increase in price) thought I was going to get a 2.8 planar Rollieflex instead. The Apollo is better than my FE though in many respects (being a professional line and all of that) but the FE's 1/125 sync and auto with AE lock are nice.

I know Tom says that a non-workhorse F makes no sense but I am nervous about beating up my Apollo since it is in good shape.

Another F camera fan here. I've got three F's and six F2's. The F2 is, to me, just a modified and slightly improved F. More than thirty years after acquiring my first F, even its supposed flaws are reason for affection - the angular contours, for example, or the removable back. There's just nothing like the feel of an old F camera.

Have 2, awaiting the 3rd with F-36 and battery pack, a real killer (litterally)
How can one even think about selling a Nikon F 🙂

Where do you send all these F's to keep them working?

They don't break. 😀

[ps I have 2 Fs, down from 3 recently. I bought my first, a chrome one, in 1977. It has had 2 Photomic finders in its time, and now has an eye level finder fitted. The other one I have kept is a black one, also with eye level finder. I also have a few F2s.....6, at the last count, though some might have to go soon. ]

As someone else said, they really don't "break" much... I think out of a hundred bought and sold I've had one that had any serious mechanical issues... The meters are a different matter all together; I've had very few that came to me working. Essex Camera in NJ did a great job fixing meters on photomic F and F2s... or just find a plain prism and you've got an even better looking purely mechanical camera. 😀

They're just beautiful cameras.. Best looking SLRs, n my opinion. Don't think I could bring myself to sell either of mine.. but I definitely could see myself buying another eventually.

What will three do that two can't?

I stopped buyiing Fs many years ago after the following exchange with Marty Forscher:

Me: What do I do if they wear out?

Marty: How many have you got?

Me: Five.

Marty: How old are you?

Me: Forty [or whatever it was at the time].

Marty, shrugging expressively: Forget it. They'll last longer than you.

Cheers,

R.

Other than look nice on the shelf? Nothing. haha I know it wold be silly to get another one, but I would probably try to get a black one that's in better condition than the one I have now.. but if I do eventually get another, it wont be for a long time.. I have lots of other camera gear before that on my wish list 😉

Just bought an early chrome F2 body sans prism to go with the DE-1 that I found at an estate sale last winter. Now to find some non-AI glass, probably a 24 for starters. Then maybe an 85.
