Can't "Copy Image Location" in Gallery?

I seem to be having trouble inserting my RFF Gallery images into my posts - which is strange, because I used to know how to do it. Hopefully someone can set me straight on this one.

This thread, of course, correctly suggests that right-clicking and selecting "copy image location" or equivalent is the way to go about it. And that's exactly how I used to get the URL to insert into my posts. There's only one problem, though...I never see "copy image location" anymore. In fact, I can't even get a "right-click" menu (technically a "context menu") for any Gallery images, even when logged in. Isn't that weird?

Does anyone else have this difficulty? I'm using Firefox, and I'm pretty sure the problem isn't on my end, but one can never tell. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place in the Gallery. Thanks in advance for what will probably be a simple answer to a stupid error.

i think that 'feature' was disconnected awhile back to keep people from lifting the images posted in the gallery.

Hey, how do you like that? Hm, must've missed that one. Joe, is that change documented in a thread, somewhere? I should probably read up.

I have to say, though...that's kind of odd. I don't know this particular forum software, but you'd figure it had the ability to allow right-clicking on your own photos, and no-one else's, thus preventing the problem.

I mean, I could link to my flickr, or other source gallery...but then, right-clicking is enabled in the forum itself, so folks could lift it from there...right?

You can still do it -- it's just harder. You have to "View Source" and scroll down about 3/4 of the way until you find the URL of the actual image (an easy way is to search for the original filename, if you remember it.)

Here's one of mine that I just now snorked out of the gallery this way:

I don't think the Gallery pages are that smart. I believe this is the little piece of Javascript that keeps right-click from popping up the context menu:

document.oncontextmenu=new Function("return false")

If you wanted to have the ability to let you pop it up and no one else, there'd have to be some way to get your login ID as a variable and pass it to the script -- which I suppose would be possible, but more complicated.

That's kinda what I was thinking - that it really was that smart. But I don't know enough of js/php to know whether it was possible. And I probablyshould know more php, as it were.

Anyway, thanks for that prior bit of explanation on grabbing from source. That's exactly that kind of roundabout thing I usually resort to, especially since it's often overlooked and difficult to prevent. It was sort of a "Duh...double duh" moment for me. I must be getting stupid.

If you click on the "send as an e-card" option, this opens a screen that lets you right-click on the image and block-copy its address from the "properties" option.

That's a lot of work, so I've taken to attaching images directly to my posts, then grabbing their address from the "manage attachments" interface.

I've noticed a lot of people doing that. It must be costing more storage overhead for the forum.

I'm not sure. I think it just makes it easier for forum readers to view an attached image.

I can put larger images into threads (as attachments) than I can put in the gllery.

I used to post a photo a day to the gallery but that new 150 Kb limit has cut down my usage, and also my enjoyment at looking at other people's photos which are much poorer reproductions than before.
