cant remove the aperture ring from jupiter 8

Unscrew the whole front group (make sure you don't lose the spacer). There are 3 tiny screws around the aperture ring. I take these out as if I just loosen them, they get lost. The aperture ring should now unscrew backwards, away from the front of the lens.

Kim, I already unscrewed 9 screws alltogether: 3 from aperture, 3 from scale ring and another 3 underneath the scale ring. what do you mean by the whole front group? should I unscrew more? there is another set of 3 screws on some kind of black inner "barrel"

Oh, now I see what you mean by screwing the lens down! and now I see the 2 screws underneath that would enable me to remove the front element.

I would take both front and rear groups off so you don't end up geting grease on them. Be carefull with the rear group, there is another spacer under there to get lost. One of the problems you have is that you will need to clean the old waxy grease out. If you look at the attached photo the area you need to clean and regrease is behind the white circle. (excuse the quality, a very quick photo). This may mean you need to take the diapraghm out. This is relatively easy but a so and so to get back. However onless you separate the two rotating bits, you won't be able to clean or grease it properly.

Egad! So you just grab the front and turn it off, without removing any of the rings? Good god, I think I get it now.
