Can anyone point me to a source (other than e-Bay, if possible) for a lens cap for my newly acquired f1.8 Serenar. Bought the lens from KEH who had it listed as "BGN" but it looks as good as new. Sadly they have no caps to fit it.

That's a very reasonable price ($19) for the Canon cap. $25 and up is not uncommon.

The FED cap for an Industar-61 will fit. The lens with cap may be cheaper than the real Canon cap!

Yes, and 42mm slip-on cap will fit, but those are not that common a size.

The cap for a collapsible Summicron 50/2 will also fit. Heretical, but might be cheaper than the Canon cap.

Thanks To You Both!

I just happened to have an Industar 61 sitting in a desk drawer; its cap now is clipped firmly to the Serenar. I was not familiar with the outside barrel diameter of the Canon or else I'd probably have ordered the 42mm cap at the same time I ordered the lens. You've both been very helpful and I'm grateful to you.

Please don't mention heresy, though: the Serenar's mounted on my M2!!

It's a fine lens, I have the later Canon 50/1.8 and it always surprises me. Don't be an elitist just because you have a Leica! 😉

But how do you keep the cap from falling off?

My Canon cap for my "Canon" branded Serenar always slips off. So I usually end up walking about with the cap off but it would be nice to be ables to cap it acassionally on the body without worrying about it. What do people do to stop this?

My fix for this lens is a simple 40.5 generic cap. The guy I bought it from used a 40-42 step up ring, a Heavystar hood, and then a 52 on top of that.

It seems I raised a bit of interest in my request for help in the lens cap matter the other day.

There are at least two sources (I've found) for clip-on caps for the 40.5mm diameter barrel of the Serenar 50mm: Heavy2Stars, an eBay seller, has them and Fedka also lists them.

I took mine out shooting yesterday and it stayed firmly clipped to the lens except when I removed it.

Hope this helps.

I replace the worn felt in Canon caps with foam from Goodman's light seal kit. The cap is snug and only comes off when I want it to.

Jon Goodman sells as "interslice" on ebay. Two kit sizes are available at very little cost.
I bought a kit 4 years ago that has replaced seals in several cameras and a few caps, and still have some left. Click:
