Phase One has introduced Capture One Pro version 7. Contrary to rumors, it looks from the initial announcement as if it will not support the X Pro. This is a disappointment for X Pro users. I for one, hope I misread this original release.

do you guys think Capture One outperforms LR4, purely in terms of teasing out better IQ?

With certain cameras, absolutely!

For example, I get better results with my Phase One P30+ back using Capture One than I do with ACR or LR4 ... of course, given that Capture One is owned by Phase One, this is hardly a surprise.

As with many others, I have been eagerly waiting to see how C1 handles the X-Pro1's files and as a result, am rather disappointed with this latest news.

With relatively straight conversions, Lightroom and C1 will show different color interpretations from the same camera. Capture One seems to use a little more suppression of color noise at default settings. I wouldn't say one is better than the other; they're different. And that difference is often useful. I tend to favor the work from some cameras in Lightroom, some in C1. But when I'm really exploring an image, I probably will look at several variations in both programs. I suppose that doesn't say much for my visual integrity, but it's fun.

Thank you both. Bill i laughed at your mention of 'visual integrity'--is there such a thing?! I think my question presupposes my answer! ):

For me it's Capture One every time. The keystone correction and the light falloff tools are fantastic, and the local adjustment tool is a Godsend. All really speed up my workflow. Colour correction is so much more advanced than other RAW developers also.

The problem to date has been it's lack of a DAM integration and I'm delighted to see that apparently a full integration with Media Pro seems to now be in place. I'll await a few user reports first but assuming a positive feedback I'll be in.

I'd rather that C1 gets RAW conversion from the Fuji X-Trans sensor's non-Beyer array right the first time, then that they ship a substandard converter as Adobe did.

Hi,
I contacted Phase One technical support... here is the thread:

Me: What are your plans to support the Fijifilm Xpro 1 raw files in Capture One V7? Would like to know prior to purchase.

Phase One: Hello James, There are not set dates on supporting this and it very well may not be supported in the future. We have receive specific files to do so from the camera manufacturer to do so. I will certainly add this support case to our feature request log. Thank you,
-Phase One Support

Me: Thank you for your response. Hopefully you will see fit to include for future release or I will not be able to stay with your software. Non-Bayer pattern sensors will gain popularity in the future and you need a way to deal with this.
Thanks again,
Jim

Phase One: Thank you James. It actually comes down to Fuji itself supplying the necessary files for us. We'll see how that works out.

Fuji still has to learn how to work together with third party vendors for raw converters.

Rumor is Billy from fujiguys said fujifilm is in some sort of contract with the major software manufacturers licensing their algorithms and the result of it should manifest soon.

I hope Phase One is one of the major software companies. I, like others in this group, use both Lightroom and Capture 1. I would hate to lose C1.

I suppose that doesn't say much for my visual integrity, but it's fun.

Now that the darkroom has gone digital and tools matured many professional photographers use multiple apps to process. The reason for this is that they're not created equal, each having strengths and weaknesses. IOW, your visual integrity is not in question, you simply have a discerning eye and preferred tools. Kudos to you for both.

I've been using C-One since 2003 and have always been to pleased with it. But I'm a little ticked that just a month or so after I finally upgrade to version 6, they release version 7. I hope there's a cheap upgrade path!

Hi Dave,
Try sending them a note. They may come back and say that it's not their policy, but worth a try... you may catch them on a "good day")
