Case restoration?

I was curious about something. I have a QL17 GIII that is in as close to mint shape as you can get without it being in the box. There isn't a single mark anywhere on the camera, including the base. I assume this is because the previous owner(s) left it in its case 24/7. Now, I'd like to keep it in this condition, but when I leave the case on, I get black bits all over my hands and everything else as it flakes off. I did a search, but didn't find anything - Is there a method for 'recoating' these junky cases so they stop flaking? Or does anyone have a resource for making or buying a replacement case for this little jewel?

The cases all suffer from this over time. The only real solution is to get a period leather one or go for a modern fabric type one. I may have one that will suit which did come with a GIII in it. It's yours for the shipping send me a PM with an email address and I will send photos.

My QL-17 GIII also came with a beat up case that caused more dirt and flakes then anything else but my New Canonet 28 came with a plastic Ever Ready type case. Definetly cheap feeling but keeps the dust off. If you can find one Im sure they are really cheap and it fits my GIII and 28.

The "hard" cases came with the "new" canonets before the GIII's. They don't rot but they do tend to cause quite a lot of rubbing to the chrome.

I didn't notice any rub issues but the case really will only protect it against scratches in your bag. Will not do anything to protect it if you actually drop it.
