Cats, but not by choice. Cats seem to choose me.

Dogs are natures way of saying: "get up and do something, let run and chase things!", cats, on the other hand, are natures way of saying: "sit down, chill, enough work for today, here, let me sit on your lap and prevent you from moving."

So many cats, so few recipies!

Dare I mention that there are many people in my country who really eat dogs? It's now prohibited by law except for ethnic groups, but it's not well-enforced. The non-ethnics eat them as sort of finger-food during drinking sessions.

The discussion made me change my Avatar. Ivy is a reformed alley cat. If you don't pet as much as she believes is required, she can swat you so fast you don't even realize you've been hit until the claw marks on your arm start bleeding

I once was a dog-person, but circumstances forced me to release them to people with much larger spaces for them to frolic in. I was adopted by three cats and continue to serve their various needs. I believe I have been promoted to the head cat butler in the house. They have only to sit by the door and purr and I dutifully open it for them to leave or enter as they desire. The one in my gallery I call baby came to use when he could fit in the palm of my hand. We fed him tiger's milk, a product you can buy, and he is now the top cat of the bunch. He also likes to sit on my lap for 2-3 hours a night. I'm glad he has a stubby tail.

My avatar is Freddie the cat (A.K.A. Kruger), very sharp in each corner. Got him as a rescue cat when he was four years old and awaiting an uncertain fate. I have been his butler for the past three years. He's a bit of naughty moggie who like attention on his terms, even then you have to count your fingers after feeding him.

Hah, my calico is beautiful, high strung, and moody. She thinks she's a woman - even got mad when I bought new furniture. She desires frequent attention but in minute quantities, and while she seems to enjoy having her ears rubbed (stretching to meet your hand, etc..) doesn't tolerate very much of it. On the rare occasion when she IS cuddly, you have to push all the right buttons in the proper order, or the whole deal is off. First, let her approach you, then when she wants to rub against you - use the back of your hand (you can't pick up with the back of the hand). Then, after a while she'll climb in your lap and allow you to rub her back. Then, and only then (maybe 10-15 minutes into this) she'll start attempting to lick the skin off my jugular veins. I think it's affection, but she might just be trying to drink my blood. But no matter how aloof or standoffish she may seem - when I wake up in the morning I can guarantee that she'll be sleeping on my knees (just out of arm's reach) or curled up in the back of my knees if I'm sleeping on my side).

I was at someone else's house recently and their cats allowed total strangers to pet them. Amazing, but I wouldn't trade her for the world.

I like both but prefer dogs. My two dogs are happy to see me when I get home. My two cats couldn't care less if I was home.

I also prefer normal sized mutts. I hate small dogs or any dogs with smushed noses. I don't mean to pick on two previous posters 🙂 , but pugs and Boston terriers are perfect examples of why humans shouldn't play god with dog breeding.

Here's a pic of my old dog Ryley and my new kitty Fiona.

Miss aloof actually misses me very much when I'm gone - just dont think it translates to any prolonged petting. It's amazing the things I've noticed that I would describe "complex emotions". Like the cat being furious with me but still struggling with velveted claws. That's an intersting little concept actually - being mad at someone you love.

For the record, I like dogs, and have had plenty growing up, but I loathe little dogs, and wont keep large dogs inside. I think you get so much more out of an indoor pet (unless you happen to spend all your time outdoors I guess.)

Mostly I am a cat person - I Have 4 cats at home and one at work - at home it is two british shorthairs, one half british shorthair / half norweigian forrest cat and one half shorthaired danish cat half - The one at work is half british shorthair and half norweigan forrest cat - In one of the pictures attached he is on top of my screen with my teddy bears and on the other he is messing up the desktop of my partner - or perhaps it was messed up and he just found a comfortable resting nest 🙂 he is called Emil, after a naughty kid in one of Astrid Lindgrens books // any way I will have to get used to being something of a dog person to as my whife just ordered a lagotto dog - it was born two days ago, so I expect it to arrive close to x.mas - they use lagotto dogs to find truffle mushrooms in italy but I will try to train it for chanterelles in sweden - I have been of this forum for a while but I hope you are all doing well - best Ruben

You never seem to stand in cat s**t on the pavement ! Sorry to bring the tone down but its a (no pun intended) "pet" hate of mine. Take you dog home to empty its insides.

Hello all,

My parrot, just wants you to know "what a good bird!" he is. He is Jag ("the BIRDY!"). He does not like Cats. And he is feeling left out in the vote. What about "the BIRDY!". He is very emphatic when he talks (except when he quietly tries to get away with saying "''ut UP!"... or else he gets locked up).

But what about the birds?

We need more pets listed... now Rocks and Fish.. just in case, if you understand what a rock or fish is saying... you either are going to be rich or seeing people in long white coats🙂

Your bird shouldn't be so narrow minded. My cat just loves birds, fish too. Not fond of dogs although there I did see a miniature something or other that looked like yoda that looked like she might enjoy. I bought her fish to entertain her while I'm at work - after a couple weeks with no fish, when I brought them home she jumped up on the stool next to the aquarium and wagged her tail like a dog. If I bought her a bird, she'd be in the garage trying to figure the wire cutters out.
