CATS on RFF

There are a lot of cats around the RFF - I am fairly new to this forum - so if you have been trough this before my appologies.

I posted a Picture of My Publishing Cat together with two friends - when it was a kitten - on top of my pc-screen ! yes I both have teddy bears and a live cat at my office :) Being self employd you get a lousy paycheck, work late but at least no one tells you you cant bring Teddy Bears

As we work far to much we found that we would spend more time with the cat if it was at the office and when we moved in 2003 to a new office domicil we had a lot of trouble getting the cat permitted into the lease - when we finally put our foot down and said that we would fine another place the owner finally gave in - sort of fun having the only lease for a company domicil in Denmark having a paragraph saing " Further more apart from the mentioned activites one Publishing Cat is allowed on the premisies"

It is named Emil - after a boy in the swedish author Astrid Lindgreens storys - "Emil från Lönneberga" and he is every bit as bad and cute as Emil was

Lindgren should have been awarded the nobel prize in litterature - but that is a different story.

His father was a run away Norweigan forrest cat (a bit like a small maincoon) and the mother was my british shorthair at home.

So what are your cat stories

I like Cats, just not this one. It's my girlfriend's sisters's cat. They had to lock it in the bedroom during a children's birthday party because it hates people. (It really does)

Anyway, I snuck into the bedroom to get a picture of this ever ellusive cat. I don't know if you can see it, but she was really upset about the whole matter.

It's a pride thing for them.
 
The one in my avatar is Seth. As you can see, he was very interested in my Camera & Coffee project. His roomate, Loki, was less so. I'll have to find a picture of him to post later.
 
I believed this forum was packed with cat-owners - are cats just something you have on the avatars? I would love to hear some cat stories

Came to the right place!

Ben (who made the prints on the snow in my avatar) is a lovely ginger tabby. Adult male, becoming a senior guy too, he's an art critic, master of his domain and expert napper. Most of the time he keeps me company while I surf the web, type papers or grade students' works. He came from a shelter where other cats beat him, so he's naturally cat averse, afraid of heights, and very much a nature boy: store-bought toys don't tickle his funny bone, but a dry leaf, a feather or a string can keep him entertained for hours. Favorite toy: papers strips from a paper shredder.

Now... wait for Rover to tell you why is his rover called Rover! :p
 
In fact I don't have a cat, and never did :) My avatar is just one street cat I found on a lonely walk one March (I think) afternoon.

That said, at the country house we use to have always 4 or 5 home/street cats that we feed. Some of them are more friendly than others and these two were particulary curious about us and you could find them each afternoon in the backyard, just napping and playing around.

The kitty still had no name, his big brother half hidden back there is Galano, sadly, a couple months ago the kitty was killed by (we think) a pack of street dogs :mad:

We'll miss him as we'll never known how he would be as an adult cat.
 
This is Ivy, an ex alley cat inherited from my mother-in-law. When she moved into our house our beagle tried to eat the food in her dish. The scars on the dog's ears are still visible.
 
Our first cat, Kitty Thor, was half Norwegian forest cat, half Maine Coon. He followed me home one rainy night. He was the most graceful cat, he could will himself up onto a fence. You wouldn't see any effort, he'd just suddenly be up on top. He also knew how to open our cupboard latch, he wanted to get to the turpentine. He was a real stoner, Pisces on the cusp of Aries, he was aggressive about getting high on the fumes. He protected and looked after his simple-minded young companion cat (an orange tabby with a disposition like a marshmallow). When we brought the orange tabby into the house for the first time, Kitty Thor was like a sack of potatoes in my arms. He made an unearthly low moaning noise, he was truly miserable... but he grew to be the new cat's big brother/protector.
 
That story about Kitty Thor had me in stitches! :p

Our first cat, Stubby (because he'd lost part of his tail to frostbite), was an alley cat after being abandoned by his family (they just moved and left him behind). He developed a profound taste for catnip, and when he saw where I kept it, he went for it, tore the bag up, and sank his nose into it. I found him in a pool of his own drool, looking really groovy... and he gave me a look that seemed to say "Hey, man, ain't life good?"

He had been found to have a bad heart murmur some days before. When my wife and I saw him so stoned we both had the same thought: "This cat has a heart murmur and he's going to give himself a heart attack!"

He did... after playing strenously, three or four weeks later, after he was cured of his red-eye. It was a very sad day, indeed...
 
I have some film in the camera of two of my three cats. Beginning life as a dog lover and in a family of all boys, no girls allowed, I am the father of two lovely girls and three cats. One followed my daughter home, the other two just found some suckers to live with. The one we call baby was dumped at the age of 5 weeks and we had to raise him on tiger's milk. The story about him is can you guess how many times it took to neuter him? It was a real puzzle and odiferous!

I am a dog person, too; however, if I keep buying these rf cameras, oh Leica where are you, my wife will be calling me a dog! Furry Lewis is playing the blues, Pearlee Blues, and it fits this rant!
 
I used to be a dog person before... In fact, I used to be allergic to cats, despite the fact that I always liked them. How did I get myself into this?

Ask Green, the neighbor's cat who adopted us when we were in grad school. He was a really cool cat! :) Declawed, and with the friendliest disposition, Green was left to wander at nights (a crime that should be punished) and, in the mornings, his owners left the house before he could get into his apartment. He then adopted us and spent countless nights in our place. We fed him, taught him to eat and drink from a bowl (he used to drink from the toilet) and when we moved I was tempted to steal him. When we were about to leave I spoke to his owner, a kind of gothic girl, who was complaining about Green's lack of affection; I offered the girl $50 for him, on the spot, but she turned me down saying the cat had been an aunt's gift.

I wish I had photographed him. He was black, big, with one yellow eye, and the other green. Never asked if he was named after his eye or after the street we live in: Green St. in Champaign, IL.

Sorry, but this thread got me started on cats... :p
 
We have two cats; Turner and Muffy. Turner is a ham -- he actually comes running if you point a camera at him and the challenge is to get him to stay put, within range. On the other hand, Muffy senses when a camera is coming, scurries and consequently not many shots of her. Both are Shelter Kitties -- Turner has had a bit of a rough go; he has had two ACL replacements, one on each of his rear knees about a year apart. The last was three years ago and both operations have been successful -- he runs, jumps, and climbs trees as though he were good as new.
 
The one in my avatar - is unfortunatly now in cat heaven, due to a very serious and very hidden cancer attack. He was a serious guy when he was around, quite big, about 8-9 kilos. The top of the lower window he is looking through is about 50-55 cm of the floor.

When we moved into our new house, we were warned of a crazy black cat somebody owned, that enjoyed entering houses at night, searching for food and generally beating up the other cats. we had a cat door, that I "thought" I had locked - but it turned out I had just locked it so a cat could get in, but not get out......so offcourse one night I wake up, and there is a huge cat fight going on downstairs. I get downstairs - and our cat is just sitting calmly at one end of the kitchen , the other one is standing back arched and everything at the other end. Between them on the floor lay what looked like half a cats black fur and a snapped cat collar. It wasn´t our cats collar, but I was a bit worried about all the black fur....until I saw him calmly get up, stretch his front legs, and inbetween every claw, sat huge tufts of black fur....never seen that other one since.

He was all for "learning by doing" as well. Just before he died , nextdoor got a young cat about 6 months old - she would come running straight at him, hissing, arching her back and everything - stop right in front of him and "threaten" him by waving her paws around - right next to his face....after this had carried on for about 5-10 minutes, his left paw would shoot out and clobber her - no claws or anything...but enough power behind to send her rolling head over heals backwards for a few meters

Now we have a dog - great guy, but I still miss the cat.

I have a thing myself, other say it resembles a cat, I'me not too sure though. I would post a picture of her but would need (very) large format film at least..... (hehehehe) It's like a huge brown skippy-ball with short legs and fur, it only moves, very slightly when it eats. With the yearly cost of food for Florice (thats what she'se called) I could easily purchase a new M7 with every Asph. Leica lens available ..... but E-bay won't even have her, so we keep her ...
