don't listen to him. my rd1's almost two years old, been dropped, battered and taken over 9000 shots and never missed a beat.

I'm ever the optimist. The camera won't get much if any abuse as it'll find use mainly on weekends and holidays. I plan on getting the CV 12 mm to document the growth of things where I live, in Dallas. I hope that won't be too wide of a lens to do that with.

The 12mm CV lens in an urban (city high-rise) environment is IMO the best lens for the task on the R-D1. Keep in mind that this is an 18mm lens on the R-D1. For examples of how this lens works in such an application see my "Geometric" photo set on my Flickr account link below. As a second lens may I suggest the Zeiss 21mm M mount lens?

An ideal three-lens combo for this camera would be (IMO)

1. 12mm CV (18mm)
2. 21mm Zeiss (31.5mm)
3. 35mm Leica Summicron non-asph last generation- great size and speed at a reasonable cost. (50mm)

Ditto. Two years this month, closing in on 10,000 shots, zero problems.

I did give in to paranoia last year and sent it in to DAG for a rangefinder calibration; he touched it up a little, but said it had been fine as-is...
