We are looking for alternative news sources and most of us have settled on various BLOGS but they are just as unfair and unbalanced as you think FOX is. Do you consider ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC as fair and balanced news sources? If so, I would have to say, "Fair and Balanced news my ass." (you named no other network than Fox so don't even go there). MSNBC with weirdo hyperflake Olberman is like fair and balanced?
I think it's fair to say that by reading my statement you can see that i point the blame at other organizations just than fox. Simply fox is such an easiest one to name off.

I saw the police with my own eyes beat reporters within an inch of their lives at the Republican convention in Miami in 1972. I was working for ABC News as a radio reporters assistant at the time. We were on the streets covering big, sometimes violent demonstrations (a teenage summer job arranged by my dad). I was lucky a few times they didn't get me.
By the way, my sense at the time was that the attacks had nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats - it had to do with abusive, thug cops who disliked the media. If you plan on a career in spot news, get used to it too. Your only concern should be to get bailed out, get cleaned up, and get back on the street with your camera and get the shot.

The thing I find disturbing watching the video is what a bunch of thugs the cops come across as and I'm not just pointing the finger at the US here. The days of a police force are numbered as far as I'm concerned and the operative word is 'force!' I know they have to deal with a lot of unpleasant situations and individuals on a daily basis but this footage repulsed me!
Have you given any thought that the video might be purposely presented to show the Denver Police in the worst light possible?
I've spent a lot of time in Denver and have been confronted by the Denver Police twice... each time they were very polite and professional just as the Police here in Boise are if I recognize and respect the authority we as citizens have given them, and expect of them. Our police have a difficult job to do and a thin line to tread (thanks to stupid PC laws, likely invoked by folks like you... well meaning no doubt)... but that doesn't change the hurdles our law enforcement officers now have to face... it just makes it tougher for them.
Do you know anything about anarchists in the major US city centers and how they provoke and manipulate? Do you really know anything about the USA? I would never presume to speak about Australia on what I see in their news... too damned biased. Might you give us the same consideration?
My THUMBS UP! to the Denver Police and the difficult situation they find themselves in.

And why would that be, other than your prejudice?
I now see your post in the pathetic light you intended. Sadly that initially escaped me. I thought you were actually concerned. Stupid me.

Again it is a matter of perspective and who you are. There is no absolute truth. I used to travel a lot and one time managed to be in three different countries in two days and there was a major story on an air strike in a hot spot. I saw the story on CNN, BBC, read about it on the Herald Tribune, as well as three local papers - all told the story differently and all took sides, not changing the facts but merely "balancing" the facts.

Kinda funny since they are the ones who created the "difficult situation"!Have you given any thought that the video might be purposely presented to show the Denver Police in the worst light possible?

were you watching the same video I was?
I'm sorry, but those police were acting in total ignorance.
To think that all police in this country are proper folk is insane. I know that not all of them are like this, but these "fine" Denver police in that video were acting out of arrogance and clear anger towards the media.
One of the officers was most certainly trying to provoke the producer to fight back as he pushed him several times(definitely not proper procedure)...i mean, why didn't he just handcuff him and take care of the whole thing quickly....but noooo he wanted to get resisting arrest and assault too is what I saw.
I'm personally quite concerned as to how this applies to photography in general. if police continue to be able to get away with these kinds of activities, there will be no point in having a camera, because you'll never be able to use it, or take it out of your house.

Some of us have lived in major city centers our entire lives, and know that the small percentage of power-tripping abusive cops outnumber the 14 year old anarchist contingent by a couple orders of magnitude.
Thanks for enlightening us about our homes from your perch in the middle of nowhere, though. We appreciate it. Ignorant jackass.

The best camera is one that still works!

As I said in my post I wasn't pointing the finger at US police ... what I was saying was I find that sort of police behaviour deplorable no matter where it happens. As I also said the situtaions confronting police are not pleasant a lot of the time ... but they are professionals and are expected to act within their boundaries ethically and fairly. The Australian police are certainly no saints and numerous incidents have occured in this country where demonstrators and media etc have been handled very poorly and the footage tells the story in the evening news.
Do you actually read what anyone is saying here or do you just have a quick browse of their posts and jump down their throats waving your own interpretation of what they meant?

We're all light!
I think you pretty much nailed it here. Politics is a messy business (the silliness of "red" and "blue" states aside...don't get me started there), and neither party has clean hands in this department (among others), but I would hope this incident is looked into, pronto. At the very least, I hope somebody got the guy's badge.By the way, my sense at the time was that the attacks had nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats - it had to do with abusive, thug cops who disliked the media. d30gaijin did that cop have a DNC logo? I didn't see one, maybe you did. I have seen the cages set up every time Bush goes into the public, you ever see those? Wish I could say more but your comment isn't worth the ban.
