Censorship starting at school

With a bit of luck, she'll grow up to be a very determined photojournalist. Most censorship is questionable but this is just plain wrong - whichever way you look at it.

I am not sure what I find worse, banning the girl from taking photos or trying to harm kids with that junk food ... Hilarious nevertheless ... (both, food and school council reaction)

Her attitudes as an adult will have been shaped by experiences like this ... like Paul said maybe she'll grow up to be a very determined PJ.

Not with the Murdoch press hopefully! :p

I wonder if this is more about the camera than the pictures. When I was in school, any electronic / mechanical device or toy distracting anything in school would be temporarily taken away by the teachers.

It was about the fact that the girl was taking pictures of school dinners. The council didn't like it. It was not distracting at all. She even had a permission to start with. If anything the camera helped the girl run this amazing blog (she's only 9!). When it gathered too much attention the council feared bad press and decided to ban it. That's how they dealt with it.

I'm sure the blog created a lot of distractions at school and was quite a big deal. The school could not make her stop her blog, so they outlawed the camera. I'm not saying it was the right thing to do, but I'm sure it was a distraction (not that there is something wrong with distractions).

... do you get the Leveson enquiry over there? ... dear old Rupert may well be going to gaol for perjury ... which is only a small step from purgatory ... which is only a small step from hell ... which he shouldn't have left in the first place. I always think of him as being like Kerry Packer, but without the charm and modesty

Yes ... Kerry Packer did have some redeeming qualities IMO.

Rupert Murdoch has none for me! The best thing he ever did for Australia was become a US citizen! :p
