Central Asia

Just saw this thread and wanted say your photos are fantastic, thanks for posting them. I liked the kid with the Toyota hat and the toddler with the red pacifier in particular but they all convey a real sense of the people and culture.

Nate, how do you interact with the people that you photograph? your people pictures here are excellent...

I try to great people with a big smile and a hello and leave them with a thank you. In Central Asia I would also place my right hand over my heart as a sign of friendship. I do my best to not look aggressive or dangerous and just give of friendly vibes. I often take candid shots too, and which point I just observe and without directly interacting with my subjects. I'm a big guy at 6'5" with a monster of a beard, so there's not much sneaking around for me. Thank you for the compliment.

hi. Am in Kabul for a few days, and have half a day Thursday when I am free. Anywhere to recommend within the city ?

thanks

Go to the old city, but make sure there is someone with you who knows the way. And while you're there see if you can climb the mountain to see the ancient 6th century walls.

In half a day you can't see much more than that.
