I finally caved and picked up a CEYOO. Luckily, the capacitor is surprisingly healthy, and a 22.5v battery I had in another flash transferred over without issue - a Sylvania Press 25 was sacrificed as a test firing, and everything seems fine.

In the manual for the Leica IIIf, there's a section about the CEYOO that states

Radius and surface of the reflector are designed to produce a pleasing soft lighting covering a wide angle, so that the 35mm. wide angle lens can also be used for flash photographs.

...but the problem is I much prefer a 28mm lens over a 35mm. Before I go burning through bulbs, does anyone know what the coverage of the CEYOO is like at that focal length? And I assume I'm right in saying that it won't depend on the bulb used?

Well, as no one answered, I threw a bulb at the problem, and it certainly seems to be pretty even coverage with a 28mm Voigtlander Color Skopar - certainly enough to be fit for my purposes. I'll update with shots if/when I have any worthy to share!
