I bought 3 Ceyoo flash guns on Ebay recently. The seller offered all 3 for $10 so I had to buy them. All seem to be in great shape exept the sync cords have a differnet pc tip on them My Camera is still being repaired so I did not have a chance to use them.

Two came with sync cords. One had none. The problem I have is that one sync cord is plugged into the flash tube with the red dot on the right side (see first photo)

The second had the two prong cord plugged into the flash tube with the red dot underneath in the same right side position, but upside down.

Where should the red dot on the plug be when it is plugged into the unit? Should it be in the position of photo 1 or turned around, facing down ,and not showing ?

I haven't used a Ceyoo in a long time, but my Christmas 1950 issue of Leica Photography, discussing flash connection to a Leica IIIf, says that "the pins of the connecting cord plug are of an especially polarized type which fit snugly.,..They have different diameters and are marked for proper insertion so that they assume the correct polarity of the electric circuit."

Thank you Bob. Problem solved. I just returned from my neighbors house. He is a retired tv repairman. He said someone took my unit apart and replaced the plug casing backwards so the red dot was on the bottom. It should be on the top right hand side like the other one is. He fixed it for me.

Anthony,

One other thing I learned about Leica sync cables:

The -f and -g cameras used a standard "PC" co-axial plug to attach to the camera, but the M used a proprietary "fat" plug, also co-axial, but not compatible with the common PC cords.

Also, the Leitz sync cord for the -f and -g cameras has a "right-angle" camera plug, that has a 1/4-turn twist lock onto that little ring around the sync socket. This plug has a satin-silver cover. The "fat" M-plugs are usually black-plastic.

A standard PC cord will fit the -f & -g sync socket, but will probably poke the user in the eye... ( I have used a std PC cord with my Sunpak e-flash on my III-f... it worked, but it wasn't fun to use ! )

The later CHICO white plastic flashes had a nifty bracket that had a built-in connector to the sync socket: no wires !

There are adapter bushings available to convert the M socket to accept the standard PC plug.

Thanks for the info Frank and Bob. I was aware that the standard PC plug fit my IIIF. I used my studio flash with the IIIF before sending it to DAG. I also have the adapter plug that Bob shows. I used it many years ago to use my strobes with my Leica M2.

Frank, I agree that the plug hits you in the eye. However, I bought a bright line Leica 50mm finder which goes on the shoe atop the IIIF. It makes viewing a dream.
