Change ability of users to delete whole threads

I fail to see why modifying your own OP and replace it with "content deleted" or something like that would not accomplish the desired flexibility.

This way, the thread remains, the context may or may not be clear because there is no original post, but useful posts will remain readable. And the original poster expressed his/her change of mind.

Win-win, no?
