I'd like to try an 18mm wide lens on my Sony α7R II, to see if I like the length – I generally shoot no wider than 28mm.

But, before I spend much money, I want to check out if 18mm suits my style.

It would be great to get some suggestions of cheaply available 18mm legacy lenses that would work with an adapter on the Sony α7R II.

If I like the length, I may invest in a more expensive 18mm lens. So any suggestions for that would also be welcome (other than the hugely expensive native Sony/Batis one)?

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

For really cheap, the Sigma 18-35mm aspherical film era "plastic fantastic" zoom can do pretty well too.

The Tokina 17mm RMS is excellent. I use it for work all the time. It has worked great on both DX and full frame cameras. Particularly nice on a Nikon F3 loaded with some TriX. For a lens that wide, I was expecting a hotspot in the center and heavy vignetting in the corners but at apertures smaller than f/4 it is very good.
