Guys, where do you get films?
Back in Israel, i was paying $4 per 35mm 400TX and the same for 120mm 100TX
Here (at 8Elm) it's $8 with tax
Are there any sources of buying anything cheaper?

Thanks

it a bit of a bother here and after much number crunching it's plain well better to just order from freestyle or adorama. usually pretty quick too. to my door in about 3 days. i can usually get it (all in) for about $2.50 a roll for 35mm 24's.

from what i understand, kodak has someone responsible for dealing with stock in canada and they aren't very motivated.

beyond that shoppers and superstore for rebadged fuji color stock. often less than $2 a roll when on sale.

I order from freestyle. 100 foot of Astia Premium 400 (TriX) for 34.99$. What is irritating is their handling fee for Canada which are ridiculous. I get them to ship to an American friend of mine who reships it USPS to me.

You can buy 100 foot of TriX from Henry's for $52.99 which works out to ~$3 per roll which is also very reasonable.

thanks everybody for the replies

BTW, 4.29 for 24 shots - is it cheap?
(comparing to $8 - it is, but is it really?)

The only way you'll find film that cheap is bulk rolling. A few people have recommended Freestyle and you can't argue with the prices.
I stay with my local stores, since I can afford it now and I don't shoot quite enough to fret about it...to each his own, though.

Get a bulk roller, 100 ft. lengths of film and cassettes and you're on your way.

Lately, unless I really need film fast - I usually order from B&H and have them ship it here - if I buy enough stuff, the shipping is relatively offset by the cost of the stuff I'm buying. It seems like a reasonable deal too since we're currently at par with the U.S. $$$

Cheers,
Dave

Yeah, I missed it was 24. I would just get 100 feet of Tri-X and roll it, or assuming you order few 100 feet to get past the higher shipping cost get the Arista 100 foot rolls from Freestyle.

the cheapest film is usually the 'house brands' of retailers like Shoppers or Walmart occasionally has Kodak deals. At 3 rolls for 10$ it's about as good as you'll find on a regular basis. Otherwise it's cross border shopping. Check Downtown also, they used to sell house brand Silvertone at $3/roll which IIRC was Ilford.

Dave may recall this film.

guys, thanks for all your replies
i'm interested mostly in B&W film, both 120mm and 35mm
freestyle for 20 rolls (10 rolls of 120 and 10 rolls of 35) will end at $3.6 per roll
I'm not sure if i will be charged any taxes on the post

I checked Aden Camera when I was in earlier today, and for Tri-X they're at $6.20 for a 36x roll of 135, and $5.60 for a roll of 120, with both in stock.

The good news is that Freestyle will ship USPS which is good. The bad news is that they charge an additional handling charge for the international postage ($20 or something). You will be charged HST on the declared value of the shipping.

B&H recently offered to ship to Canada via Purolator. This option looks to be about 50% cheaper than Fedex/UPS options. They also calculate HST and duty if applicable so there are no extra costs when the package gets to your door. There also seems to be no handling fees by the shipper.

Just so you guys know- Henry's has a 10% student discount.

I guess most of you aren't students though... and their film is still really expensive...

I just checked Vistek's site, and they have 20 rolls of 120 Tri-X for $114.95, 5 rolls are $27.99. 20 rolls of HP5 (35mm - 36 exp.) is $119.95. Don't know if that's a bargoon or not, but knowing Vistek, probably not.

j. scooter is absolutely correct. Order from B&H. I ordered 60 rolls of NP400 - and compared the TOTAL price from B&H (shipping / duties / taxes - everything to my front door) to what I would have paid at Vistek (I didn't factor in travel expenses to Vistek :) ) - I would have paid more than DOUBLE at Vistek - or Henrys - or - you name the place in Toronto. It's a substantial save to go to B&H with the deal they set up with Purolator. I just ordered quite a bit of photo paper - once again, a HUGE savings.

The funny thing is that Henry's price for 100 foot of Tri-X is good. About the same as Freestyle. I don't know why the price for Trix-36 is so much!
