Whoa.. that ain't half bad - then again, we all know it's not the camera but the eyes behind it that make the art :)

Nice images :)

Cheers,
Dave

*runs off to Ebay to look for one* :D

How long does the battery last? I remember looking at something like this and I didn't buy one because it ate through batteries rather quickly, even when it was off.

I've been looking up some info on the camera - man, this takes me back to 1998 :D - 1.3 Megapixel camera - so you can do 4x6 prints, maybe 5x7 if you're lucky :)

That said, a lot of times, the photos that mean the most to us, the ones that are printed and the ones that hold the most sentimental value, are the ones that are small.

:D

Cheers,
Dave

Ha! It's already "over"...that camera is out of production and the new version is "improved" with 2mp and extra vignetting added. Still, maybe I'll go check wal mart...

This actually looks really interesting.

Edit: I cant find one under $60 so screw it. ywenz, show me where it is cheap please.

Vistaquest made several versions of these cameras. For the out of production ones, only the VQ1005 from 2006 is "good". Good means it has a slight vignette, the colors are contrasty and takes on a strangely filmic feel to it. The 2008 version of VQ1005 produces very generic looking digital images.

I got my 2006 version on ebay for $43.

Given the popularity of these cameras, Vistaquest started to produce a new model. Now called VQ1015 Entry. These can be ordered from Asia for around $50 + shipping. Flickr has a few groups dedicated to them. The VQ1015 Entry doesn't have a battery issue that the VQ1005 has (more info at bottom). However, the lens on the VQ1015 Entry has too much vignetting for my taste.

The 2006 version I have does have a battery issue where even in OFF mode, it'll drain the battery to preserve the built-in 8MB memory. Since I use a 2GB SD card, I do'nt really care for the internal mem. So I can do a simple mod like glueing a piece of plastic to the case where once the case is closed, the additional plastic will push on the battery such that it'll break the connection. Very simple and effective mod. I have not yet modded my camera so I've just been taking out the AAA battery when I'm not using it.. Doing this, I've so far taken approx 200 images on a single lithium AAA battery and it's still going strong.

The cool thing about these little cameras is that you can also cut open the casing and access the lens directly. The lens rotates to allow macro focusing.. pretty sweet!

This image sold me on this camera. ( I did not take this image)
