Checking over a 35SP

Hi, new member here. I figured it would be better to bump this up than to start a new thread. I'm going to check the camera in the listing out tonight in person:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BUNDLE-Olym...006396473?pt=Film_Cameras&hash=item4d1184c839

(not sure if it's against rules to post a link but it's eBay item number 331006396473.)

anyways, I have an Oly 35RC and wouldn't mind EV metering and a spot meter as well. I'm going to bring the RC and try the battery in the SP. Is there anything I should be on the lookout for? I'll check out the lens, make sure the blades and shutter all function...but how can I know that the spot meter works? I'm assuming for the regular meter with the battery the needle will simply move, but is there a way to specifically check the spot meter?

Also any opinions on this package here? I'm meeting the guy in in around 4 hours and told him that if I liked what I saw, I could offer $75, which he agreed to. On the other hand, I got my working RC last summer for $10...

Thanks everyone!

Luigi

Hi,

Welcome aboard.

Look at the meter needle in the VF then push the spot button and the needle should move to the spot's reading. The scale is in EV's from memory.

picked up the whole package for $100 after checking it out. I'll have to make my introductory post after putting a roll through!

camera has good looking light seals, a screw on metal cap on top of a Hoya skylight filter, and strap/case in great condition. body, however, could use reskinning, at least up front.

finder is bright, lens is clean, aperture blades move nicely, shutter speeds seem accurate, and both center and spot metering produce accurate EV readings.

are either of the flashes included worth dabbling with or even selling/giving away? i've never really used a flash. and lastly, what on earth is this thing?

thanks everyone!

Hi,

Heaven only knows what the thing is but don't throw the flashes away until you've identified them. Some of the older Olympus flashes are sought after by collectors. Especially the small horizontal ones.

Hi,

Just checking and wondered if the mystery object was an elderly audio plug adapter. There were bayonet connections years ago and it might take one of those. A Hi Fi specialist might be able to identify it; try asking him/her what a KT66 is first or pick someone in their 60's...

Hi, I have a nice little 35RC I use a lot. I have been able to get Kodak 625A batteries from a Camera shop in New Mexico, that keeps them in stock. These batteries last me up to a year or longer and have proven very good for this camera. I don't know where they get them and will ask next time I'm down there.
Enjoy your new camera, and as mentioned, get out there and use it!
