Chemistry Disposal?

Been developing at home and am building up a stock pile of depleted developer (acu fine) and kodak fixer. Can I dump this down the drain? or is there somewhere to bring it? I am in Chicago...any info would be greatly appreciated...

Check your local laws.

That being said, developer can probably go down the drain. Fixer should be taken care of properly since it has silver in it. Take it to a photo place - they'll probably take it. Or take it to a local hazardous waste disposal day.

There's a fundamental dichotomy here between local law and science.

Most scientists say that it is, in the strictest sense, negligible, being undetectable (and therefore effectively negligible, by definition) by the time it reaches the sewage works.

Some scientists, and the majority of arts graduates, say "Check your local laws."
