Chinese Red Flag 20 and lenses

J-9 black in LTM or M42(M39) mount? The early M39 mount black J-9s are very sharp lens, They are more contrasty than later M42 un-coated version. These may also have Zeiss elements?

I have an early Helios 40 85/1.5 S/N 000xxx. That is a very sharp lens. I sold a later black 85/1.5 because compared to the early one, it is a crap.

Getting a I-61LD, a Late J8 and a Late J9, all in LTM, gonna send the $ next week.

I heard that M39 Helios 40, after fitting the M39 to M42 adapter can't line up the tripot mount straight (not at the bottom anymore), what's up with that?

That is the problem for those early Helios 40 lenses. If the infinate mark passed the 12 o'clock, may be a thin paper washer could correct it.

My black Helios 40 if mounted on a Canon A-1, the meter reads the same as a J-9 85/2, and the contrast is low at full opening. So I think it is not much of use for a much heavier lens. I have a couple of early coated M39 J-9s that are very sharp. I guess a portrait lens does not need to be very sharp, so a later un-coated J-9 is fine for this kind of pictures.

Just sent the Wire Transfer to the US (Western Union), the handling fees is bad...

Anyway, buying a FD body, with the adapter, then the 75mm Biotar or the Helios 40, it might be cheaper to pick up an 90mm Summicron...

Would love to shoot 75mm Summilux and 90mm Summicron...

Girl Friend will flip if she knows the price of those lense, might ask for an break up...

Eventurally, no rush, LOL

Really want to train my eyes, I figures shooting more will help, hence getting those Russian Lense...
 
An early MD mount(Seagull DF) 200mm F2! lens was discovered recently by a Collector in Nanjing. Probably only some prototypes were made. The brand name is Changjiang (Yangtze River).:cool: I assume it was made by the same factory that made those Changjiang anamorphic projection cine lenses.

That is an impressive piece of glass! I hope I bought that 500mm F4 Changchun made lens. For those who do not bother to read all the message, here is an image of a well made Shanghai 203 120 folder. The 3e/3g lens is much better than that of Seagull 203's. And a Great wall SZ-2 spring wound 135mm rangefinder camera.:)

maybe not a good idea, but it is an idea. A LF back with a Nikon or Canon mount so that a DSLR of 6M-10M sensor size can be extended to many folds to produce a much larger file of maybe 30-40M for big prints later with some PS. This may be good for some landscape images that are relatively still.
Someone is selling this back for a few hundred RMBs on a Chinese site, but I think it is not difficult to do it DIY.

That's the guy James Ku (or some other last name) from Shanghi, who own a shop specialising in large format and also sell on the Tao Bao website (chinese ebay).

I found him not very honest, and his prices are expensive. He had a Plaubel Peco Jr, sticked a Malika 67 (properly wrong spelling) badge on it, and list it like "69 ready for digital back", and try to sell it at 6000-ish RMB (750 USD?), that's a little bit too much, it's around 500 USD if you can find one.

He does have some very clean Linhof MT for 20k+ RMB

The Shanghai 203 is one Chinese camera I still have which works, though not i perfect condition. The Rangefinder coupling of the lens is off due to the distorted cam below the bellows.

Oh, my I-61 and Jupiters arrived in HK...

Picked them up from relatives last night, been happy toying around it at home last night...

Might try the lens this weekend in Shenzhen.

Will, My Chinese cine lenses were made by Beijing Nr.608 factory. They are all in Arri standard mount. Their fack focul length varys according to each lens, but I think the registration distance should be the same.

Here are a few back focul length for some wide angle lenses that could be converted for digital cameras:

35DSJ-20 20mm F1.4, 27.36mm
35DSJ-28 28mm F1.4, 27.76mm
35DSJ-35 35MM F1.3, 28.9mm
35SJ-16 16mm F2, 27.46mm
35SJ-20 20mm F2, 30.04mm

And there is an interesting 35SJ 2000, 2000MM F10, 1886.4mm, weighs 35kg!

Changchun made a 30X zoom lens, 25-750mm F3.5-22, only weighs 5.5 kgs.:D

Yes the Chinese new year is still celebrated here. Though it's still a few weeks away, people are now preparing to welcome the arrival of the year of the 'fire pig' :D

About movie lenses- would you know what the focal registers (working distances) of the Krasnogorsk 16mm cameras?
