I was told the M8 warranty is 2 year, not the standard 3 yr, (the question had come up in one of the forums).

not surprisingly, the guys in the booth had only had the camera for a couple of days, so their first hand knowledge was limited. the lens shown was the 35/1.4. No new 28 was there.

Re: the new 28. I was told that we'd have to wait until November to actually see the lens in NYC.

I'm glad that quite a few went to Bryant Park on Sunday - I originally posted the info from the NY Times last week. I also handeled the M8 and agree to all positive comments so far. One point, due to the smaller RF mag. you see more of the lens hood than with the .72 standard but I guess you get used to it. Btw I didn't hit the jackpot last night, so no M8 for me 🙁 . I also asked if there are plans for a FF M9 and the well known argument about the too angled rays of light at the edges of the M lenses came up, I don't know if this will be solved in the future or if dedicated digital lenses will follow.
The M8 body definately needs a mod. version of Tom A.'s Rapidgrip (for central hole bottom plate and new dimensions). I use it on an MP and love it. The Sling whould be attachable right away and also would assure you that you won't drop 5G's 😀 . Anyone on a waiting list - waiting will be worthwhile, I'm sure, have fun.

I was there 2:00-2:30 or so. You'd think with the sun being so overhead the light wouldn't be so good, but the fill provided by the de facto bounce compensated. It was so pronounced that when I first noticed it I looked around expecting to see someone setting up to film and putting up a gold reflector.

It was especially dramatic in the walkways by the reading area. You'd have the sun coming from one direction as a backlight and the bounced light acting as a key.

I had to meet a friend after my brief M8 preview, so didn't get a chance to really shoot that much, but it seems very promising.

Its a real hidden gem for tourists like me as well. Didn't even know it was there (and I don't think many tourists do, which is strange considering the locale), just happened to find it wandering around last time I was in NY. Wonderful shooting opportunities and massive contrast for B&W on a summer's day. Great variety to be had - cityscapes, people, architecture, etc. I think I was there late afternoon in June and got exactly the same effect...

I need to go back with a proper camera and a significantly improved technique 😱

How did I miss this? :bang: I'm itching to handle an M8. Anywhere else in NY(C) they can be fondled/slobbered on? Oh well, I much agree with others about the quality (and quantity) of light in Bryant Park. Breathtaking anytime of the year.
