I'm not a fan of the Leica-supplied strap for the CL.. curious what other people are using with their CL's

I use a nylon strap for an old Minolta. You can easily make your own by buying
a length of it from a fabric store. Thread the ends into one of those plastic
adjustable fasteners (sorry, I don't know what they are called). If I'm
correct, the original CL strap is made of cheapo plastic; not very nice.

joe: what Way said.. I just don't like the plastic feel of it.. the design is ok, but I'd like something made of webbing or maybe leather

Way: I'll look into that.. it should be easy enough to do, I guess.. thanks!

At the moment, I have a wrist strap from an old P&S but that's not terribly good either. I've got a tripod mounting wrist strap from Gordy that I need to use more and see how that feels.

I'll hopefully get the first film back tomorrow. Haven't had the $$$ to pick to two rolls up. I'm hopeful though.

I have a nice thin black leather strap with clips that i took off an old purse of my mom's on my canonet, its the perfect length. i never really liked nylon.

I find the whole setup with the lugs, original strap and original case to be rather awkward. One can't completely remove the case without removing completely removing the strap, so you end up with the case hanging from the strap while you're taking a picture.

A wrist strap ends up on the wrong side of the camera for me and needs to be rather loose so you can change the aperture and focus with your left hand (while it's through the strap). Plus it needs to be pretty thin so it will go through the lug hole in the case.

While the original strap is of a plastic material, it is well made and durable. Before I found an original strap, I tried to use a leather strap from an old lense case, but it was a little too thick and made removing the back of the camera difficult, since the lugs need to slide on the strap to remove the back.

I also tried to use a strap that connected to each lug, but found that it was difficult to get the case on and off over the lugs with the strap ends attached.

I'm afraid I'm not giving you any great ideas. At this point I'm using the original strap and the original case the way they were intended to be used. I't kind of awkward, but the positive side is that it would be very difficult to lose the case.

While I like my CL I never liked the two lug vertical setup.
I think the lugs are on the wrong side; the strap is always in the way of the viewfinder for me.
On the other hand if the lugs were on the opposite side they might interfere with the shutter advance..
I've been mildly tempted by a Luigi case or a DAG mod/ third lug to have a horizontal camera, however both cost almost as much as what I paid for the body!
I use a Minolta leather strap and rubber pad that I got on the bay for 5 bucks. I tried an old domke strap however it was overkill for such a compact camera.
Inconvienence and dead meter aside, I am always pleased with the images I get from the 40C.

Another timely thread for me. I really wish it just had normal strap lugs. I don't even really mind if it is vertical or horizontal (though I must say, I have no idea why anyone would want vertical? What's the point? Am I missing something here?), as long as it has the little lugs that accept the steel rings. I have found very few straps that fit that type of strap attachment, and most of them are not very good. I am going to give Way's idea a try, as it sounds like it might be the best option. Just a nylon ribbon type strap would probably work since it is such a light camera. I wish I could use my Luigi wrist strap though...it has only the steel ring to attach it.
