cl chat

You are correct the Leitz Minolta CL was released the same month as the Leica CL. One thing I do disagree with is the Minolta CL there was never any such camera although its often mentioned on websites. I think that people abreviate Leitz Minolta CL to just Minolta CL which causes the confusion. The Leitz Minolta CL was discontinued in 78 so there was a couple of years gap until the CLE was brought out.

Here is where I saw the info on the "Minolta CL." http://www.cameraquest.com/leicacl.htm Three different versions are mentioned.

I'm thinking Stephen Gandy might have some misinformation on his site about the CL -- but then, it seems as though plenty of others do as well. The serial number information is not correct, as we have seen on this thread. I had also assumed there was a "Minolta CL" based on his site, but Joel sounds pretty clear that this is not so. Was there a "Leitz CL"? Or were there just the Leica CL and Leitz/Minolta CL prior to the CLE?

I never heard of a "Leitz CL." I am sure there is a Leica CL and Leitz-Minolta CL. The "Minolta CL." is the version that I am not sure about. 😕

In another thread, Joel indicates there is no such thing as a "Leitz CL." He says above that there were no Minolta CLs either. So the only models appear to have been the Leica CL (including the 50 Jahre edition) and the Leitz/Minolta CL. And I gather these two were made concurrently at the Minolta factory.

"Or were there just the Leica CL and Leitz/Minolta CL prior to the CLE?"

Also dont forget the 50th Aniversary CL which was just a tiny transfer added beside the Leica CL name and fetches several times more! (Like selling water in bottles why cant I think of one of these schemes!)

Nick has the latest number I have seen on a Leitz Minolta CL and it still has the Leitz tag still there. I asked a factory Minolta technichian about the Minolta CL and he had never heard of it and his specialty was CLE's so he worked there during that whole period in the late seventies early eighties. Thats where I obtained all my new spare parts I have stockpiled for CLE's

Hi Nick, no im not a repair resource sorry just a bower bird that collects these things in case they will be useful down the track. I do have a copy of the CLE workshop manual though. I am setting up a website but its focus will be on certain group of lenses rather than the CL/CLE's
