Actually, there has been speculation that the 40mm Summicron is multi-coated. The original idea that it is single coated came from a magazine article around the time the lens was released, and the article was only speculating.
The Summicron 40 was released during the same time Leica multi-coated all of its lenses, so there's a chance they also would have this lens multi-coated. The coating colors are different, I believe, but from my own experience, I have not seen any marked contrast and flaring differences between the CL and CLE versions that I have seen in images from the 40/1.4 MC and SC by Voigtlander.
Anyhow, my post is not backed by any hard evidence, so take it for what it is - my belief that the coating theory is just that, a theory.
