Hi has anyone ever encountered a scanned repair book for the CL.
I have one for the M series so I guess there must be one for the CL too.
I constantly run into problems regarding one or the other thing and I have to figure out by myself how things supposed to work. Which is time consuming and tiring.

In the moment I'm working on two and try to make at least one very good one and one useable without RF out of it. (Prism de-mirrored) OOOORRRRR does anyone know where to buy RF prisms for CLs?

I already know Sherry Krautner exists, but hey: feel free to advice me again not to things myself. :D

I'm not sure unfortunately but where did you find the M series one? Would love to see it

They are definitely around. The trouble is that there is often copyright on these things and handing out copies at will over the net can bring about serious issues. I often get asked to copy the CLE one that I have but I always declined for that reason.

Not 100%, but if your not charging for it and just posting the info. Doubt there would be trouble.

It is close to 40 years old material

Why don't you attempt to repair the prism? I have heard of successful attempts to separate and recement them.

the RF prism of the CL is much simpler than the prism in the VF of an M camera.
It sits behind the RF window and is tiny compared to the problematic prism in the M leica. I am not sure if re-mirroring is doable tho.
see: http://www.angelfire.com/biz/Leica/page21.html

the CL only has a piece of glass instead the cemented prism in the VF - which might be the reason the M-Leica is so bright compared

Also I got the Leica Camera Repair Manual now and there is indeed some useful information in there.
For instance how to remove the whole RF - so I might swap that from one camera to the other. Although there are subtle differences in the two CLs I have - they are quite some serial digits / build years separated from each other

while one has a dead RF the other one needs a fix on the advance .. sometimes when not used with enough force the advance lever would already disengage and move back while the curtains aren't 100% in the end position. They'd just roll back and I'm loosing that frame when releasing the shutter. The meter arm seems to be the only thing that actually works normal in those cases.

has anyone ever experienced that? I don't want to disassemble the advance mechanism if I don't have to. The frame counter spring is a nightmare to get back in position.

OK .. so i'm now 10000% percent sure that the CL wasn't cancelled for eating out M sales but manufacturing costs vs. price. whoever designed that thing was a masochist

Wow, not what I expected to hear. Pity as it is such a cute camera. I would have expected a simpler approach than what you have uncovered.

Please keep us in the loop as to the twists and turns of your journey.

Thanks.

thanks for the encouragement

actually I was able to transplant the RF from one to the other only to discover that the other had a similar problem.
there are several pivot screws that adjust the advance and release mechanisms and one might went off when I was handling the camera - i haven't actively set those at least.
I'm moving closer to the problem tho

OK .. a step further. I'm too pessimistic at heart to yell "break thru!" but that one body where the meter arm wouldn't lock with the advance seems to be good now.
The mistake I made (like so often) is taking more apart than necessary when swapping the RF into the other body. I wanted to take out the baffle frame which was unnecessary. The meter arm wouldn't lock because the frame was not in the right position - all it needed was position adjustment of the baffle frame of about a third millimeter (loosen the two screws a bit pulling it a bit away from the slow speed compartment and tighten again).
now I (only) need to reassemble the front an top and adjust the RF

Progress nun the less. Have you been taking pictures as you go? (read I hope...)

The CL is a wonderful camera and it would be great to have some guidance for future brave folks like you.

Yes, I purchased one from a company in the UK.
The scan isn't particularly good, but everything is legible. The parts are listed with descriptions in English and German.

care to share? :D
I bought the Leica Repair Manual - which is quite helpful but does't cover everything.
