CL scratching film

I purchased a CL on eBay last year. (I had one in the 1970s, along with an M3, but sold it). I love it, and have made lots of good photos with it. Now I also have an M6, and I want to use the CL as a second body.

The trouble is that it's scratching my film. The scratches appear worse at the end of a roll. As I rewind the film I can actually hear and feel the scratching. I've had a good look, but I can't see any obvious cause. The pressure plate is smooth to the touch and to the eye.

Does anyone have any thoughts about what could be causing this, or what to look for? Thanks.

Did it once or many times?

Maybe a piece of fine grit or something that fell in with the last load if only once and got removed when checking (which is why not felt).

Maybe to recheck. Take some cheap film, pull it out and holding the pressure plate down. Pull it through to see if it scratches.

Also could have been something on the edge of the film container that was scratching when rewinding and again got dislodged when container removed

It is important to check whether it is the emulsion side (camera side) or film base side (pressure plate) side that is getting scratched.

Clean everything that gets close to the film. And check if the pressure plate is pushing too hard.

I recently had one roll scratched similarly. It scratched the final ten frames. I could feel the film slipped while being winded. I could hear the gear slipping sound.

I believe it was due to the film loading. I left tool long the free end while loading the film. The free end made the rolled film thicker in diameter, especially at the filnal few frames. There was insufficient rooms for the film and it increase the chance of the film rubbing on itself and scratched.

Sounds reasonable?
