I'm considering purchasing an M6 that is 'new in box' never used. It was made in 1995. If it hasn't been in use for the past 11 years would you recommend a CLA? If so where do you recommend?
There is indeed a chance it is a bit sticky. But I would run a couple of films through it. Most likely it will be fine then. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I picked up a M6 (classic) in nearly the same condition. Turned out to have sticky framelines, but for less than a $100, DAG (http://www.dagcamera.com) did a marvelous tuneup (freed the framelines and adjusted the rangefinder). My serial number tracks it to among the last 100 built in 1998.
If everything works without sticking or hesitation, I can't see any reason to pay for an overhaul. Keep using it and it should keep working. DAG told me the lubes they've used the past 10-15 years are much better about not gumming up in storage than the lubes they used to use. "Sticky" framelines aren't usually a lubrication thing, it's usually a mechanical glitch, according to the techies.
